The Power of Creativity

As promised in the previous newsletter, I will be sharing valuable lessons I've learnt from self-help books.

Today I will be sharing from The Power of Creativity by Bryan Collins.

- Ease yourself into it: prepare your work in advance.

- Create space: create a work space. When you finish working for the day, reset your workspace and sort through what you have worked on.

- Anticipate what you need and then arrange everything so it is to hand. Ideas appear at unusual times and unexpected places so your tools and supplies should be easily accessible.

- Set a deadline for your creative project on your calendar, block out time on your calendar each day to create. Hold yourself accountable to this routine.

- Review your routine weekly or monthly. Ask yourself how many ideas you came up with, whether you are hitting your target count or putting in enough hours in front of the canvas or page.

- If you can't write for an hour today, sit down and write for 15 minutes. If you don't have enough energy to paint or write after work, try for just give minutes in the morning.

- Reward yourself: mark small victories like keeping a new routine, reaching targeted word-count or a finished painting.

- Pay attention to what is driving you.

- Learn what your audience wants: ask them for constructive feedback that you can use to improve and expand your original idea.

- Find the sweet spot between what you create and what your fans will pay for.

- The best, most creative days come from meditation and exercise.

- Start a side project today and give yourself permission to fail.

- If you haven't accomplished anything in a while, finish just one of your creative projects, however small. Through finishing, you will discover more about what to create next.
